Tenshi
Furumi begins his second year as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and Instructor
for the Athletic Training Education Program at UWA. He provides athletic
training services to the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Last season,
Tenshi contributed to the success of the women’s basketball team that won its
first Gulf South Conference Tournament Championship in school history.
Tenshi joined the UWA Athletic Training staff following a one-year internship at
Coastal Carolina University, where he primarily worked with the men’s soccer
team. Prior to his experiences at Coastal Carolina, he attended the University
of Nebraska at Omaha and completed his M.A. in Health, Physical Education, &
Recreation with a concentration in Athletic Training. During his graduate
studies, Tenshi worked with football, wrestling, women’s basketball, and
baseball. He also had unique opportunities to provide medical coverage for
National Championship Tournaments for Division I and Division II Wrestling, as
well as the College World Series in 2010.
Tenshi completed his undergraduate career at California State University, Chico
in 2008 with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology. Tenshi began his Athletic
Training experiences in the summer of 2007, when he volunteered with the Chico
Outlaws a local Independent League Baseball team. He then continued on to
assisting with the varsity athletics teams at Chico State, where he was
responsible for the softball team.
