NATA Foundation: New Events, Big Changes in St. Louis

The NATA Research & Education Foundation has exciting new programs and events on tap for the 2012 NATA Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposia in St. Louis!

NATA Foundation Block Party

^

Kick off convention week by attending the NATA Foundation Block Party on Tuesday, June 26 at Laclede’s Landing, the city’s only riverfront dining and entertainment destination.  See the ad HERE.

Two blocks of the Landing will be closed to traffic from 7:00pm – 10:00pm to allow convention attendees and their families a unique opportunity to mingle and enjoy live entertainment in the historic district.  Area bars and restaurants will be set up outside and will offer food and beverages for purchase that can be enjoyed during the event.

Party Passes can be purchased for a $20 tax-deductible donation to the NATA Foundation. The pass includes entry to the Block Party plus discounts, buy-one-get-one-free offers and more from over a dozen bars and shops in the Landing.  Pass holders can use each offer once daily, for the duration of the convention. This means that even if you can't make the party, you won't miss out on this great opportunity to save big bucks while supporting the important work of the NATA Foundation!

Get your Party Passes in advance via the Annual Meeting registration form or on-site in the registration area or at the NATA Foundation booth.

New Research Mentor Program

^

The NATA Foundation is launching a new initiative that will provide guidance and mentorship to junior faculty members involved in athletic training research. The Research Mentor Program launches in St. Louis with a short program designed to offer mentors and mentees an opportunity to network and hear a presentation from a leading researcher.

We are excited about this program and looking forward to expanding it in the future..

Fresh Free Communications Format

^

The Free Communication Program provides a forum for researchers and clinicians to disseminate research and clinical case studies. This year’s program promises to be a highlight of the Annual Meeting, with more than 285 abstracts selected for oral, thematic and poster presentations.

In June – for the first time ever – all Poster Presentations will be displayed throughout the week in a special section of the Exhibit Hall. Attendees can view the posters anytime during Exhibit Hall hours. Don’t forget to stop by again on Thursday, June 28 from 10-11:30am, when authors will be on-hand to meet attendees and answer questions about their important work.

    GRANT INFORMATION SUMMARY
Acute and Chronic Adaptations in the Throwing Shoulder of Competitive Baseball Pitchers With Implications Concerning Injury

    ^

    GRANT INFORMATION SUMMARYPRACTICAL SIGNIFICANCE
The throwing shoulders of active collegiate baseball pitchers do not exhibit clinically significant acute alterations in glenohumeral joint laxity and stiffness, posterior shoulder tightness, or scapular upward rotation at rest or following a bullpen throwing session.  However, chronic alterations in rotational range of motion (ROM) is present with a near symmetric gain in throwing shoulder external rotation and loss of internal rotation of approximately 10° that does not change significantly following pitching.  Therefore, alterations in these shoulder mobility variables may be early warning signs for the development of shoulder pathology.

Eric L. Sauers, PhD, ATC, CSCS
