TPI Recognized as NATA Foundation’s First Corporate Champion

^

Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) contributed $12,000 to the NATA Foundation, making TPI the organization’s first official Corporate Champion.

The NATA Foundation Board of Directors approved the Corporate Champion program in November 2009.  Corporate contributions can be a set amount – or they can be based on a donation per product sold.  The TPI plan was based on a contribution for each attendee at its Level One Certification Course held during the NATA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.
My TPI (Titleist Performance Institute)

Per NATA Foundation President Mark Hoffman, PhD, ATC, this program is a step in the right direction for the organization.

“The NATA Foundation is fortunate to have a very strong endowment program that was established during our Capital Campaign,” he said.  “Now we need to focus on generating unrestricted funds so we can adequately support the endowments and our research and scholarship programs.  By partnering with solid companies such as TPI, we are not only raising revenue, we are building relationships.”

More information on the TPI and its certification courses can be found at www.mytpi.com.

The Effects of Chronic Ankle Instability and Fatigue on Dynamic Postural Control

^

GRANT INFORMATION SUMMARYPRACTICAL SIGNIFICANCE
The results of this study demonstrate that chronic ankle instability disrupts dynamic postural control most noticeably by altering neuromuscular control proximal to the knee. This effect is magnified with the presence of fatigue.

Annual Meeting Attendees Enjoy a Night at Citizens Park!

^

More than 1,500 NATA Annual Meeting attendees enjoyed a night at Citizens Park in Philadelphia, PA watching the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday, June 22.

Scoreboard Recognition for our ProfessionThis event was the official NATA Foundation Annual Meeting Fundraiser. Funds raised from the game will be used to offset administrative and management costs associated with administering the grants, scholarships and educational programs.

NATA Foundation President Mark Hoffman Throws out First Pitch
The evening also
provided an excellent venue for promoting the athletic training profession.  Athletic trainers typically don’t make it to the pitchers mound (and when they do, normally it isn’t good news), but NATA Foundation President Mark Hoffman, PhD, ATC represented the group well by throwing the opening pitch.  While the toss was a bit high and to the left, it was a good effort – especially considering he was throwing to the Philly Phanatic!

The NATA, the NATA Foundation and the profession were also recognized several times during the game.

Thanks to Jeff Cooper, A.J. Duffy and Joe Iezzi for their help in putting together this event!

Scholarship Application Helpful Hints

^

Attention athletic training educators!  The NATA Foundation Scholarship Committee continues to tweak the scholarship application process to streamline it as much as possible and to make it as simple as possible for our students.  However, it is important that students be proactive in meeting deadlines and staying on top of application information.

Here are a few tips that might be helpful to your students:

  • Application information will be posted on the NATA Foundation website October 1.  Rather than wait until the last minute, students should begin the process as soon as possible.  Remember, December is a busy month for everyone!

  • Scholarship applications that do not include an official university transcript will be rejected. It is important to remember it can take a university up to four weeks to submit a transcript!

  • Recommendation letters are also critical. Students should allow at least two weeks for the certified athletic trainer to provide the recommendation letter.  If the student does not receive the recommendation in two weeks, a tactfully worded email or phone call as a reminder would be appropriate!

  • The scholarship application deadline is Monday, February 7, 2011.  ALL information is due by this deadline – including the recommendation letters!

Continue to check the NATA Foundation website (www.natafoundation.org) for updates and additional information.
