Athletic Training Student Challenge – Update and A NEW Way to Give!

^

Congratulations to Athletic Training Student Challenge winner Western Carolina University for bringing home its FOURTH consecutive win in the 2012 contest!

And thank you to ALL schools who participated in this year’s Challenge:

  • Eastern Illinois University
  • Michigan State University
  • Springfield College
  • University of Central Oklahoma
  • University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire
  • University of Wisconsin - La Crosse

Because of your efforts, we raised almost $5,000 for the NATA Foundation’s annual fund and we’re hoping that, with a new way to give, the 2013 Challenge will be our biggest yet!

The 2013 Athletic Training Student Challenge is kicking off now to offer college/university athletic training clubs a unique opportunity to support the NATA Foundation through fundraising efforts to help our organization meet its goals.  This year, in addition to raising money for the Annual Fund, schools may elect to designate their donation to go directly to one of our NATA Foundation research or scholarship endowments.  Not only will this help the endowment get closer to completion, the student club will be part of history by contributing to a research or scholarship that will be granted in perpetuity.

In addition to recognizing the top contributor, we will give three awards in 2013 - First Place: Highest Overall Contribution to the Annual Fund; Highest Overall Contribution to an Endowment and Highest Contribution from a First-Time Participant.  To learn more and sign up for the Challenge, go to www.natafoundation.org/development/athletic-training-student-challenge

Make a Difference TODAY!

These are just a few of the activities and programs YOUR Foundation is working on to advance the athletic training profession through research and education. Without the generosity of our donors, it would not be possible for us to award scholarships to deserving students, fund research grants that lead to improved patient care and develop resources for athletic trainers in the field such as the Building Blocks for Clinical Practice series and Position Statements. Your donation will enable us to continue these important programs and to develop new ones that will benefit students, athletic trainers and the physically active now and well into the future. Invest in your profession by making a donation today at https://www.natafoundation.org/development/annual-fund/online-donation-form.

GRANT INFORMATION SUMMARY
EMG & Kinematic Analysis of Drop Jumps from an Unknown Height: A Mechanism for Non-Contact Injuries

^

GRANT INFORMATION SUMMARYPRACTICAL SIGNIFICANCE
These results provide experimental evidence for the importance of contracting muscles prior to ground during function exercises.  When forces at the knee occur earlier than anticipated, preparatory thigh muscle contraction and stiffness were decreased.  This reduces dynamic support and exposes ligaments to injury.  Furthermore, these results demonstrate gender differences in overall movement patterns that may explain the increased incidence of non-contact ACL injuries in females.

NATA partners with Sport Safety International to offer continuing education and support the NATA Foundation

^

Sport Safety International has combined efforts with the National Athletic Trainers' Association to offer a series of online continuing education courses focusing on the importance of sport safety and risk management. Five courses: Pediatric Sport Safety, General Medical Management, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Sports Safety and Concussion each contain current, evidence-based information. Each course has been peer reviewed by content experts. Athletic trainers who successfully complete all five courses can earn up to 10 BOC CEUs.  A portion of the proceeds from each course benefit the NATA Foundation.

Shoe Box Society for Planned Giving

Three new members joined the Shoebox Society in 2012.  They are: Kip Smith, MEd, ATC, Kent Scriber, EdD, ATC, PT and Rachael Oats, CAE.

Consider joining the Shoe Box Society for Planned Giving.  Planned gifts take into account a donor’s financial, family, business and estate considerations.  These gifts can take many forms.  Planned giving techniques can significantly reduce estate, income and gift taxes, allowing donors to benefit the NATA Foundation while realizing impressive tax advantages for themselves.
