Foundation President Mike Sitler Reports on Outcomes Summit |
^ |
|
|
I am
pleased
to
provide
a
follow-up
report
on the “Advancing
Outcomes
of Care
in
Athletic
Training
Summit:
A Road
Map for
the
Future”
that was
held on
May 18,
2007 in
Dallas,
TX. The
NATA and
Foundation
Boards
of
Directors
provided
joint
financial
support
for the
summit.
This
support
was
instrumental
to
success
of the
conference,
which
serves
as the
“program
announcement”
for the
one
million
dollars
that
NATA has
dedicated
to
funding
athletic
training
outcomes
research
for the
next
three
years,
beginning
in
2007.
The
purpose
of the
Summit
was to
serve as
a
catalyst
for
conducting
athletic
training
outcomes
research
in a
systematic
and
directed
manner.
Specific
information
provided
at the
summit
included:
(a)
identifying
athletic
training
outcome
areas
that
will be
funded,
(b)
identify
outcome
measures
important
to
advancing
athletic
training
clinical
practice,
and (c)
providing
information
about
the
application
process
and
deadlines
for
submitting
pre-proposals
and
grant
applications.
A total
of 44
individuals
attended
the
summit.
Based on
solicited
and
unsolicited
feedback,
the
summit
was of
high
quality
and
useful
to those
in
attendance.
One
attendee
commented
that .
. . “the
lecturers
had
interesting
and
informative
presentations,
were
knowledgeable
in their
subject
matter,
and
effectively
interacted
with
attendees,”
which
summarizes
the
sentiments
expressed
by many
in
attendance.
Based on
feedback
from
participants,
there
appears
to be
interest
in
holding
future
summits
on
athletic
training
outcomes
research
as a
means of
further
immersing
evidenced
based
medicine
into the
athletic
training
profession.
No
decision
has been
made in
this
regard,
but the
prospect
of
holding
future
outcomes
research
educational
opportunities
will be
considered
at the
appropriate
time.
As this
is an
important,
emerging
area in
the
health
professions,
providing
additional
educational
opportunities
would
serve to
further
facilitate
its
infusion
into
athletic
training
educational
settings,
clinical
practice,
and
research. |
