Foundation Events a Success at the 2006 NATA Annual Meeting

^

 

Over 2,500 NATA Annual Meeting attendees participated in the Special Events sponsored by the Foundation.  For the Foundation Golf Classic at Stone Mountain Golf Club 202 attendees participated while 187 members participated in the Fun Run at Piedmont Park.  Click HERE to see the Fun Run results.  A record 2,207 members turned out for NATA Foundation Night to see the Atlanta Braves take on the Boston Red Sox at Turner Field.

 
   

Funding for 18 Grants and Post-Doctoral Fellowship Approved

At the June 13, 2006 Board of Directors Meeting, the Foundation Board approved a total of $172,519.55 funding for three General Grants ($123,141.00), one Post-Doctoral Fellowship ($29,340.00), four Doctoral Research Grants ($10,000.00), and eleven Osternig Master's Research Grants ($10,038.55). PRACTICAL SIGNIFICANCE

When comparing ultrasound treatments providing identical total energy delivery a continuous duty cycle has a greater influence on skeletal muscle regeneration following blunt trauma than does a pulsed duty cycle.

Recent Foundation Board Actions

^

 

Your NATA Research Foundation Board held its annual meeting June 13th in Atlanta, GA. Below are some highlights of the actions taken on this date:

  1. Approved the minutes for the 4/26/06 conference call as presented.

  2. Approved upgrading the currently vacant Part-Time Foundation Assistant to a Full-Time Position.

  3. Approved requesting the Scholarship Committee to develop options for potential sponsors to consider when making their commitment. The options would be developed with a sense of establishing fully endowed scholarships to the greatest degree possible.

  4. Approved appointment of 3 new Research Committee members as recommended.

  5. Approved re-appointment of 3 current Research Committee members to a second term as recommended.

  6. Approved including an expected increase in the 2007 budget for the cost of printing the Supplement to the Journal of Athletic Training resulting from increasing the allowable word count for abstract submissions.

  7. Approved an unbudgeted expenditure of $29,340 for a Post-Doctoral Research fellowship Grant.

  8. Approved an unbudgeted expenditure of $10,000 for Doctoral Research Grants.

  9. Approved an unbudgeted expenditure of $10,038.55 for Master’s Research Grants.

  10. Approved an unbudgeted expenditure of $123,141 for General Research Grants.

 

73 Scholarships Awarded at Atlanta Convention

Forty-seven of the 73 scholarship recipients were present to be recognized at the William E. Free Communications Program Continues to Grow

The Foundation Free Communications Program for 2006 received a record total of 384 submissions of which 247 were accepted. Oral presentations totaled 152 and 95 Poster Presentations were provided. Free Communications Award Recipients are as follows:

Chris Ingersoll receives NATA Foundation Volunteer of the Year Award

Our congratulations and appreciation go to Christopher D. Ingersoll, PhD, ATC, the Joe H. Gieck Professor of Sports Medicine at the University of Virginia, for receiving the 2006 NATA Foundation Volunteer of the Year Award.


Dr. Christopher D. Ingersoll, former NATA Foundation President (2000-2004), Foundation Board member from 1996 to 2004, and Editor of the Journal of Athletic Training has clearly demonstrated a high level of commitment to the Foundation, its mission and its programs over an extended period of time.  He has been very generous with his time and resources in support of the Foundation.  Chris is an individual who personifies what the Foundation is all about.
