Begin Scholarship Application Process Now

Since 1990, 899 NATA Foundation Scholarships amounting to 1.6 million dollars have been awarded.

2007 Scholarship applications are now available on the NATA Foundation website.  There are three categories: Entry Level, Masters and Doctoral.  Click HERE for further information on scholarships and links to the applications which may also may be downloaded from the following links:

Applications must be mailed with a postmark not later than February 10, 2007 to be considered.

Over seventy $2,000 scholarships will be offered.  The basic criteria includes NATA membership (one year for masters and doctoral and application for membership not later than November 1, 2006 for entry level students), 3.2 GPA on all course work and intent to make athletic training their primary means of livelihood.  Specific eligibility requirements vary with each scholarship and is provided with the application.

The Scholarship Committee is composed of a member from each NATA district as well as representatives from professional baseball, basketball, football and hockey.

Summary of Funded Grants: Knee Joint Pathology

^

 

Over the past several years, the NATA Foundation has provided research support for numerous investigations studying the various effects of knee pathologies.  This summary demonstrates the magnitude of the NATA Foundation’s commitment to fund exceptional research studies targeted at contributing to the scientific body of knowledge within athletic training and sports medicine.   Specifically, this summary addresses a variety of original research that has studied issues related to knee joint injury; one of the most common injuries athletic trainers manage.

PRACTICAL SIGNIFICANCE

The results of this study suggest that the shoulder and elbow are controlled by different neuromuscular mechanisms; and this information may alter how rehabilitation interventions are prescribed.

Recent Foundation Board Actions

Your NATA Research and Education Foundation Board held its August conference call on 8/24/06.  Below are some highlights of the actions taken on this date:

  1. Approved the minutes for the June13, 2006 Board meeting.

  2. Approved appointing a committee to assist with securing sponsorships for the annual Foundation Golf Tournament.

  3. Tabled the scholarship sponsorship options proposal for further discussion.

 

BŪ / SHŪ Challenge

Boston University, Sacred Heart University and the NATA Research and Education Foundation are beginning the second year of the jointly developed BŪ / SHŪ Challenge.  Athletic Training Student organizations should click HERE for more information and to sign up by the October 13, 2006 deadline.
