Start the Scholarship Application Process Now

2008 Scholarship applications are now available on the NATA Foundation website.  There are three categories: Entry Level, Masters and Doctoral.  Click HERE for further information on scholarships and links to the applications which may also may be downloaded from the following links:

Applications must be mailed with a postmark not later than February 10, 2008 to be considered.

Over seventy $2,000 scholarships will be offered.  The basic criteria includes NATA membership (since
February 10, 2007 for masters and doctoral and application for membership not later than November 1, 2007 for entry level students), 3.2 GPA on all course work and intent to make athletic training their primary means of livelihood.  Specific eligibility requirements vary with each scholarship and are provided with the application.

The Scholarship Committee is composed of a member from each NATA district as well as representatives from professional baseball, basketball, football and hockey.

John Honaman joins Foundation Staff

The NATA Foundation is excited to announce the hiring of John Honaman for the recently established position of Capital Campaign Manager.  John has extensive experience in several areas that would indicate success relative to our needs and expectations.  John began in his new position August 20, 2007 and may be reached at (214) 637-6282 Ext. 202 or johnh@nata.org.

BU/SHU Challenge

Boston University, Sacred Heart University and the NATA Research and Education Foundation are beginning the third year of the jointly developed BŪ / SHŪ Challenge.  Athletic Training Student organizations should click HERE for more information and to sign up by the October 13, 2007 deadline.

 
   

GRANT INFORMATION SUMMARY
A Comparison of Muscle Activation and Knee Joint Stiffness between Female Dancers and Basketball Players during Drop Jumps

PRACTICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Compared to basketball players, dancers showed non-significant trends towards higher hamstrings and lower quadriceps muscle activity during drop landings. Continued research examining other possible ACL protective movement strategies employed by dancers is necessary.

A Look at the NATA Foundation Goals

^

 

Beginning with the March issue and continuing for the next three issues, we are focusing on the Goals and Strategies of the NATA Research & Education Foundation.   Each of these six Goals is equally important to fulfilling the mission of this organization.  This issue lists the third of the six Goals listed in no particular order of relative importance.  In subsequent issues, we will highlight each goal, one goal per issue.

GOALS AND STRATEGIES

  1. Provide forums for the exchange of ideas pertaining to the athletic training knowledge base

    Strategies:

    • Present the Free Communications program at the NATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium
    • Sponsor "summits" which will allow professionals to share ideas focusing on athletic training topics

Your NATA Research Foundation Board held its August conference call on 8/30/07.  Below are some highlights of the actions taken on this date:
  1. Approved the minutes for the June 25, 2007 Board meeting as presented.
  2. Approved the Gift Acceptance Policy as recommended.
  3. Approved the Gift Recording, Receipt and Acknowledgment Policy as recommended.
  4. Approved the Total Return Endowment Spending Policy  as recommended.
