At its
inaugural
donor
reception
Tuesday,
the NATA
Research
and
Education
Foundation
ushered
in a new
era,
highlighted
by a
sweeping
capital
campaign
that has
set its
sites on
raising
$2
million
in two
years.
Incoming
Foundation
President
Mark
Hoffman,
PhD, ATC,
said the
first
few
months
of the
campaign
have
already
yielded
$600,000
in cash
and
pledges.
It’s an
encouraging
start,
said
Past-President
Mike
Sitler,
EdD, ATC.
“This is
quite a
moment,
I can
tell
you,”
Sitler
told the
crowd
who
gathered
to honor
16
donors
(or
donor
groups)
who have
each
given
$5,000
or more.
“This
has been
really a
labor of
love for
two
years,
and it
would
not be
possible
without
every
one of
you
present
and our
board.”
One
after
another,
four
speakers
reiterated
the
importance
of the
Foundation’s
mission
to
support
scholarship
and
research
— Marje
Albohm,
MS, ATC;
Dave
Perrin,
PhD, ATC;
Jim
Thornton,
MA, ATC,
PES; and
Kevin
Guskiewicz,
PhD,
ATC.
Hoffman,
an
Oregon
State
University
assistant
professor
of
exercise
and
sports
science,
has
served
on the
board
since
2004 and
is
excited
to lead
the
group as
president.
“My
number
one
priority
is to
make
sure we
have a
board of
directors
focused
on the
long-term
health
of the
Foundation
so we
can
continue
to
support
development
of the
profession
through
the
numerous
programs
we
offer”,
he said.
Charlie
Redmond,
MSEd,
ATC, PT,
a dean
at
Springfield
College,
is the
Foundation’s
vice
president.
“The
work of
the
Foundation
over the
years
has
played a
large
role in
the
growth
and
remarkable
advancement
of
athletic
training,
and this
needs to
continue,”
Redmond
asserted.
Treasurer
Clint
Thompson,
MA, ATC,
explained
how to
ensure
that
continued
role: a
strong
bank
account.
“Our
main
focus
will be
working
on the
capital
campaign
to
solicit
funds so
we can
endow
scholarships
and
research
grants,”
he said.
