News
Feature
Story on
Foundation
Capital
Campaign
The
NATA
Research
and The
Foundation
Board,
Staff
and
volunteers
have
been
working
for over
a year
on the
quiet,
or
advanced
gifts’
phase of
the
capital
fundraising
campaign,
The
Campaign
for
Research
and
Education.
The
first
such
campaign
in
Foundation
history,
the
fundamental
principle
is to
move
from a
dollar
in –
dollar
out
financial
model to
an
endowment
model.
This
change
permits
financial
gifts to
be added
to the
principal
of a
fund,
allowing
for in
perpetuity
and
annual
income
to
support
an
endowment.
With a
base of
tremendous
support
and much
encouragement
the
Foundation
is
beginning
the
public
phase of
the
Campaign
as
announced
in the
January
issue of
the
NATA
News.

The
Foundation
has
developed
several
web
pages to
provide
further
information
on the
recently
announced
public
phase of
the
Campaign
for
Research
and
Education.
The goal
of the
campaign
is to
increase
the
endowed
funds in
the
Foundation
in order
to award
more and
larger
scholarships
and
research
grants.
In
turn,
this
would
grow the
body of
knowledge,
increase
expertise
and
advance
the work
and
practice
of
Athletic
Training.
Included
are
several
quotes
from
major
contributors
to newly
established
endowments
as well
as
information
on how
we can
all
become
benefactors.

A
Message
from
Foundation
President
Mark
Hoffman |
^ |
|
|
This
year
is
shaping
up
to
be a
very
eventful
time
for
the
Foundation.
In
the
short
four
weeks
since
the
calendar
turned
to
2009,
John
Oliver
has
announced
his
plans
to
retire
shortly
after
the
annual
meeting
in
San
Antonio
and
our
Capital
Campaign
has
moved
into
the
public
phase.
John
Oliver
has
been
a
“rock”
of
the
Foundation
and
has
served
as
the
director
for
the
tenure
of
four
out
of
the
five
Foundation
presidents
(see
John
Oliver
Retirement
Story).
The
official
kickoff
of
the
Capital
Campaign’s
public
phase
occurred
at
the EATA
meeting
earlier
this
month.
The
general
plan
for
moving
the
Capital
Campaign
into
the
public
phase
is
for
official
announcements
and
presentations
to
occur
at
each
of
the
district
meetings
as
well
as
at
the
Educators
Conference
next
month.
We
are
nearly
half
way
to
our
2
million
dollar
goal.
This
Capital
Campaign
for
Research
and
Education
is
your
opportunity
to
financially
support
your
profession
and
feed
your
passion.
Everyone
involved
with
administering
this
campaign
and
soliciting
support
knows
the
difficulties
of
raising
money
in
our
challenging
economy.
One
of
the
key
points
we
are
continuing
to
stress
with
the
donors
and
our
prospects
is
that
the
campaign
was
designed
to
allow
contributions
to
be
spread
over
three
years
or
contributed
in a
single
donation.
You
can
find
more
information
on
the
Campaign
for
Research
and
Education
at
www.natafoundation.org/capitalcampaign.htm.
I
hope
that
each
of
you
consider
this
opportunity
and
seriously
consider
your
individual
involvement.
