Members have fun with Foundation Activities

^

 

NATA Foundation Golf ClassicApproximately 2,157 NATA Annual Meeting attendees participated in the Special Events sponsored by the Foundation.  For the Foundation Golf Classic at Gateway National Golf Links, 121 attendees NATA Foundation Night at Busch Stadiumparticipated; while 293 members participated in the Foundation Fun Run Forest Park, St. Louis.  Click HERE to see the Fun Run results.  1,743 members turned out for NATA Foundation Night to see the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Kansas City Royals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

 

Funding for 11 Grants Approved

At the June 16, 2008 Board of Directors meeting, the Foundation Board approved a total of $18,960.00 funding for six Doctoral Research Grants ($14,960.00), and four Osternig Master's Research Grants ($4,000.00). In addition to the new grants approved, funding was subsequently approved on the July 10 conference call for a multiple year Project Grant ($107,013.00).  Click HERE to see the full listing of the grants, recipients, institution, title, and amounts.
 

 

75 Scholarships Awarded in St. Louis

Free Communications Program Winners

The Foundation Free Communications Program for 2008 received a total of 380 submissions of which 299 were accepted.  Oral presentations totaled 124 and 175 Poster Presentations were provided.  Free Communications Award Recipients are as follows:

Congratulations to Ken Kladnik for receiving the 2008 NATA Foundation Volunteer of the Year Award.  We are very appreciative for everything that Ken has done for the Foundation over the years and particularly his leadership and dedication to the Foundation Scholarship Program.

The Foundation requests nominations for the following awards for 2009:

  • Medal for Distinguished Athletic Training Research;

  • New Investigator Award;

  • Doctoral Dissertation Award.

Foundation Welcomes New Crew to Board

It’s a brand-new lineup for the NATA Research and Education Foundation after electing several new board members and moving a few current members to different positions.  At the Annual Meeting in June, seven new Foundation board members took office, including a new president, vice president and treasurer.  The new members and previous Board members that are in new positions include Mark Hoffman, PhD, ATC, Charlie Redmond, MS, MEd, ATC, PT, Clint Thompson, PhD, ATC, CSCS, Michelle Boyd, MS, ATC, Sue Guyer, DPE, ATC, LAT, CSCS, Robert Kersey, PhD, ATC, CSCS, Darin Padua, PhD, ATC, Dave Perrin, PhD, ATC, Jeff Ryan, MPT, and Cindy Trowbridge, PhD, ATC, CSCS.  Click HERE to read the full story
 

 

GRANT INFORMATION SUMMARY
Descriptive Epidemiology of Injury to the Cruciate Ligaments

^

 

PRACTICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Although cruciate ligament (CL) injuries are common in individuals who participate in physical activity and sport, the epidemiology of these injuries remain unclear. This study was able to determine the number of cruciate ligament injuries that occur annually, as well as describe the burden placed on the healthcare system by this injury.

BŪ / SHŪ Challenge Recap

^

 

The Boston University Society of Athletic Training was recognized at the William E. Newell Athletic Training Student Awards Luncheon for the third consecutive year at the winner of the BŪ / SHŪ Challenge, but the real winner was the Foundation.  The Challenge began three years ago with six clubs participating.  Last year 14 student organizations raised thousands of dollars for the Foundation and 23 different colleges and universities participated this year to raise a grand total of $11,500.  Special thanks to these participants:

Recent Foundation Board Actions

Your NATA Research Foundation Board held its annual meeting June 16th in St. Louis, MO.  Below are some highlights of the actions taken on this date:
  1. Approved the minutes for the 4/25/08 conference call as presented.
  2. Did not approve an unbudgeted expenditure of $107,013.00 for a Project Grant as recommended.
  3. Approved re-appointment of 2 current Research Committee Members to a second term as recommended.
  4. Approved appointment of 2 new Research Committee Members to a first term as recommended.
  5. Approved an unbudgeted expenditure of $4,000.00 for Master’s Research Grants as recommended.
  6. Approved an unbudgeted expenditure of $14,960.00 for Doctoral Research Grants as recommended.
  7. Did not approve an unbudgeted expenditure of $109,006.00 for a General Research Grant as recommended.

The Foundation Board held a conference call on July 10, 2008 and took the following action.

  1. Approved the designated funding from NATA for the Snyder/McLeod Project Grant as proposed.

The next Foundation Board Conference Call is scheduled for August  26, 2008 at 12:00 Noon (Central Time).
