Norman
E. Waldrop, III,
MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained
orthopaedic surgeon, who specializes in foot and
ankle surgery at The Foot & Ankle Center at
Andrews Sports Medicine. A large majority of Dr.
Waldrop's time is dedicated to sports injuries,
arthroscopy, and traumatic and post-traumatic
conditions of the foot and ankle.
Dr. Waldrop's research
interests include sports-related injuries of the
foot and ankle. He has presented research at the
AAOS, OTA and AOFAS national meetings. His other
research interests include traumatic injuries of
the lower extremities. He has authored multiple
book chapters on topics related to foot and ankle.
Dr. Waldrop is an
orthopaedic consultant for the New Orleans Saints,
University of Alabama, Auburn University, Troy
University, Samford University, and the University
of West Alabama. In addition, Dr. Waldrop provides
medical coverage for Homewood High School.
Previously, he provided coverage for
Birmingham-Southern College.
Originally from Mobile,
Ala., Dr. Waldrop earned his Bachelor of Arts
degree in Chemistry from the University of
Virginia. Following graduation, he returned to
Alabama, where he earned his medical degree from
the University of Alabama School of Medicine in
Birmingham. He then completed his residency in
Orthopaedic Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center in
Charlotte, N.C., where he developed an interest
for foot and ankle under the tutelage of Dr.
Robert Anderson and Dr. Hodges Davis. Following
residency, he completed a one-year fellowship in
foot and ankle orthopaedic surgery with Dr. Thomas
Clanton at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, CO.
Dr. Waldrop and his
wife, Meredith, have two sons, Cort and Robert. In
his spare time, Dr. Waldrop enjoys golfing,
skiing, fishing and spending time with his family.
